LANDOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Tuesday, Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, law enforcement and regulatory officers checked commercial vehicles traveling in and around the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County for safety defects.
Officials tell us that 101 commercial trucks and buses were placed out of service for safety defects and 19 drivers were taken off the road for being unqualified to drive commercial vehicles as a result of Roadcheck 2013.
During the operation, commercial trucks and buses were directed into a temporary inspection zone at Fed Ex Field in Landover. Police units patrolled the surrounding area for vehicles attempting to avoid inspection, say officials.
During the course of Roadcheck 2013, 525 vehicles were examined by officers. In addition to the 101 and 19 drivers placed out of service, police issued 181 traffic citations and 284 warnings for commercial vehicle related violations, say officials.
Police say similar operations will be conducted in the future.
