LEESBURG, Va. (WUSA9) -- A northern Virginia woman is a lot richer, after hitting it big in the Virginia Lottery, officials tell WUSA9.
Norma Chhaunkar, of Leesburg, has won $1 million in the Powerball, Virginia Lottery said in news release.
She initially thought she had won $250,000 when she showed the Powerball ticket to her husband. She purchased the winning ticket at Sheetz, 915 Edwards Ferry Road in Leesburg, the press release said.
"The winning numbers for that drawing were 3-7-21-44-53 and the Powerball number 16. This ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Powerball number. "You only hit five," her husband joked. "Why didn't you hit six?"Had the ticket matched that sixth number, it would have won an estimated $216 million jackpot," it said in the news release.
