Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Shayne Whittington finished with 23 points
and 14 rebounds as the Western Michigan Broncos defeated the Buffalo Bulls,
71-60, in a Mid-American Conference tilt at University Arena.
Darius Paul added 15 points and eight rebounds for Western Michigan (14-7, 6-2
MAC) which won its sixth straight contest. David Brown scored 13 points off
the bench on 4-of-6 from the field.
Javon McCrea registered a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds for
Buffalo (8-14, 3-5) while Tony Watson chipped in 11 points.
Buffalo made 50 percent of its shots in the opening period including 5-of-11
from long range while holding the Broncos to 43.3 percent. The score was
knotted at 31-31 at halftime.
WMU held Buffalo to 32 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes and despite
missing all four of its 3-point tries, took control of the game with a 9-0 run
midway through the half.
WMU outrebounded Buffalo, 40-30, and the Broncos' bench held a 26-6 scoring
advantage.
