Boca Raton, FL (Sports Network) - Greg Gantt scored 23 points as the Florida
Atlantic Owls defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 70-75, in Sun
Belt Conference play at FAU Arena.
Stefan Moody was a rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 16 points in the
Owls' (8-8, 3-2 Sun Belt) victory. Pablo Bertone contributed 12 points as
FAU won for the third time in the last four games.
For the Ragin' Cajuns (6-10, 2-3), Elfrid Payton tied the game-high with 23
points making good on 10-of-14 from the floor. Shawn Long was one rebound shy
of a double-double scoring 22 points and Bryant Mbamalu chipped in 17 points
in the setback.
Both teams shot well in the first half, hitting 50 percent from the
field. Florida Atlantic made 5-of-11 3-pointers, while holding Louisiana to an
0-of-4 effort from beyond the arc, en route to a 39-27 advantage at the half.
In the second half Louisiana never managed to get any closer than four points
and the Owls would make 14-of-17 free throws to secure the five point
victory.
FAU was 18-of-21 from the free throw line while Louisiana was a mere 11-of-21
from the charity stripe.
