WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A D.C. fire official says emergency crews responded to L'Enfant Plaza Metro station for the report of an unconscious baby at 8:13 a.m. Wednesday.

They took the baby, who is two days old, to the hospital. 

A D.C. police officer reports that the baby was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

The circumstances of the baby's death are unclear at this point.
