ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- A dentist was sentenced to 46 months in prison after defrauding private dental providers, officials said.
Tuan Vu, 43, of Arlington, Va., defrauded 50 private dental insurance providers of more than $2 million, officials said.
"According to court documents, Vu admitted to committing health care fraud from at least January 2007 to September 2011. Vu is the owner of Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, PLLC, a dental practice in Alexandria, Va. During the time of his scheme, Vu repeatedly billed dental insurance providers for services that he did not provide his patients," officials said in a news release.
Officials said Vu cost the federal government and the Commonwealth of Virginia about $300,000 in losses.
He has been ordered to pay a $250,000 fine and more than $2 million back in restitution.
