ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers have fatally shot a man suspected of wounding a young Anchorage man at a cabin along the Parks Highway.
Agency spokeswoman Megan Peters said the armed man was killed as law enforcement officers attempted to arrest him at mid-day Friday.
Peters said the man who was killed has been tentatively identified as 34-year-old Atom Ziniewicz of Falls Church, Va.
The spokeswoman says 21-year-old Brenton Green of Anchorage and 21-year-old Kimberly Scharber of Wasilla were at a cabin early Friday near Mile 270 of the Parks Highway when they were confronted by a man armed with a handgun. Peters says the man threatened the couple and shot Green twice. Green and Scharber fled and reported the shooting to troopers in Fairbanks before 7 a.m.
State troopers, wildlife troopers and members of a regional Special Emergency Reaction Team responded and set up a perimeter.
