According to police, officers went to a hospital in Woodbridge on Thursday afternoon to investigate the report of an unresponsive baby. Detectives later learned that the baby had internal injuries consistent with abuse.
After an investigation, police found that Coachman, a family member, was trying to get the baby girl to sleep and squeezed the child several times when she started to cry. The baby was "forcibly" put back into bed, say police.
Other family members found the baby unresponsive later in the day.
As of Monday morning, the baby was still in critical condition at the hospital, say police.
