WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - A call for a suspicious envelope with a white powder disrupted afternoon traffic in downtown Washington Friday afternoon.
14th St. N.W. between Constitution Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave. was shut down for nearly two hours as a hazardous materials team was called to the second floor of the U.S. Commerce department after the envelope was reported.
At least two people were evaluated for possible exposure to a hazardous substance, but were not taken to a hospital.
Rescuers determined the envelope was not a threat, according to D.C. Fire/EMS spokesman Oscar Mendez.
