WOODBRIDGE, Va. (AP) - Virginia and local officials say they have a deal with the owner of the Potomac Nationals to build a new minor league ballpark for the club in Woodbridge.
The plans announced Tuesday call for a 6,000- to 7,000-seat stadium off Interstate 95 in the Potomac Town Center development.
The Nationals, a Single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, currently play in an older stadium and have been looking for years for a new ballpark site.
Details still need to be finalized, but the plan calls for team owner Art Silber to invest $25 million in construction of the ballpark, and the Virginia Department of Transportation to spend $15 million on an adjacent, 1,500-space commuter lot.
Construction is expected to be completed in 2014.
