Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Brian Matusz snapped a 14-start losing streak and Buck Showalter earned win No. 1,000 in his managerial career, as the Orioles upended the Yankees, 7-1 in the middle test of a three-game series. Matusz (1-3) limited New York to one run -- on Curtis Granderson's first-inning homer -- and six hits over 6 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old righty, a 10-game winner in 2010, had been 0-12 since his previous victory on June 6, 2011. His effort, in addition a two-run homer by J.J. Hardy and a solo shot by Chris Davis, helped Showalter become the 58th manager in MLB history to win 1,000 career games. Davis went 3-for-4 and scored three times. Phil Hughes (1-4) continued his struggles, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk over 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. The Yankees had won all four games against their AL East rival this season, but their 4-through-9 hitters went a combined 0-for-22 at the plate on Tuesday.

Final Score: Detroit 9, Kansas City 3

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Austin Jackson had four hits, including a two- run double, and Rick Porcello snapped a two-start losing streak with eight good innings, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 9-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. Detroit's win started a shortened two-game series. The scheduled opener was postponed on Monday because of rain and will be made up Sept. 24. Porcello (2-2) allowed three runs on seven hits, striking out three without a walk. He had given up 14 runs in 7 2/3 innings over his previous two starts. Jackson singled and scored in a five-run first inning and highlighted a three-run rally in the third with his double. He also saved a home run in the ninth inning by reaching over to catch Jeff Francoeur's hit, which had bounced off the top of the wall in left-center field. Tigers manager Jim Leyland picked up his 1,600th career win, passing Tommy Lasorda for 17th place all-time. Royals starter Luke Hochevar (2-2) gave up nine runs in just four innings -- including five with no outs in the first -- to take the loss. He allowed 12 hits and three walks and struck out two.

Final Score: Toronto 8, Texas 7

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Brett Lawrie lined Mike Adams' full-count slider over the wall in left-center field in the bottom of the ninth inning to break a tie and give the Toronto Blue Jays an 8-7 victory over the Texas Rangers. Kelly Johnson and Jose Bautista hit back-to-back homers to help Toronto climb out of an early 5-0 hole and Johnson finished with four runs batted in for the Blue Jays, who have won three of four and knotted this three-game set. Francisco Cordero (1-1) allowed a run in the ninth to record his second blown save of the season but got the win. Ian Kinsler knocked in three runs and scored twice in the losing effort.

Final Score: Oakland 5, Boston 3

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Jarrod Parker pitched into the seventh inning for his first major league win, Jemile Weeks had two runs batted in and the Athletics defeated the Red Sox, 5-3, on Tuesday. Parker (1-0), making his third career start, allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four over 6 2/3 frames. Weeks scored a pair of runs while Yoenis Cespedes and Cliff Pennington added an RBI apiece for Oakland, which halted a three-game slide. Mike Aviles hit a one-out, two-run single in the ninth inning but Jordan Norberto retired final two batters to earn his first career save. David Ortiz added an RBI for Boston, which had won seven of its last eight games, including the opener of this three-game series on Monday. Felix Doubront (1-1) lasted just four innings in the loss, allowing five runs on six hits while recording a career-high eight strikeouts.

Final Score: Tampa Bay 3, Seattle 1

St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - With All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria sidelined for the next four-to-eight weeks with a partially torn left hamstring, Matt Joyce lifted the Rays to a 3-1 victory over the Mariners in the second test of a four-game series at Tropicana Field on Tuesday. Longoria left Monday night's 3-2 win over the Mariners after the third inning, when he slid awkwardly into second base. Joyce, who took over Longoria's third spot in the batting order, belted a solo home run and added an RBI triple while starter Matt Moore (1-1) scattered seven hits and walked one over his five innings of work, but allowed just one run and struck out seven to earn the victory. Luke Scott knocked in the other run for the Rays while Fernando Rodney fanned all three hitters he faced in the ninth for his eighth save of the year and the Rays' seventh straight home victory. Hector Noesi (1-3) tossed 5 2/3 innings and was charged with all three runs on three hits and three walks. Jesus Montero had a career-high four hits in the setback as the Mariners dropped their fourth straight contest.
