LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (WUSA) -- A former Marine accused of firing shots at the Pentagon, Marine Corps museum and other military buildings is now charged after trying to escape from jail, says Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Yonathan Melaku of Alexandria damaged a part of his cinder block wall in his holding cell, say Loudoun County Sheriff's Office staff. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. After staff discovered the damage on Sept. 23, they placed the center on lockdown as a precaution.

Then, after reviewing the incident, Melaku was charged with damaging the facility to aid escape and possession of an instrument to aid escape.

Loudoun County authorities continue to investigate the incident.
