FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- The Virginia State Crime Commission is considering adopting a version of Caylee's Law, which would make it a felony for a parent or guardian to fail to report a child missing within 24 hours.
State Sen. Janet Howell has received 400 emails from constituents all urging her to pass the law. Howell, the commission chair, said upon reviewing the state code they discovered there is no requirement for reporting missing children. A bill to change that would likely be introduced in January.
