WASHINGTON (AP) -- Twelve demonstrators protesting congressional control over the District of Columbia have been arrested outside the White House.
The demonstrators, which included Mayor Vincent Gray and Delegate Eleanor Norton Holmes, called for DC voting rights and statehood during Saturday's protest.
D.C. has a city government, but its budget and laws are subject to congressional review. Gray and dozens of other demonstrators were arrested in April outside the Capitol while protesting a federal budget deal that officials feared would impose renewed restrictions on the city.
The demonstration took place in Lafayette Square Park.
