NEW YORK (AP/WUSA) -- Nicholas Brooks, the boyfriend of a fashion designer found in a bathtub full of water at a swank Manhattan hotel, has been charged with second degree murder according to the New York Post and the New York Daily News.
Last week, the medical examimer determined 33-year-old Sylvie Cachay was strangled and drowned. Cachay was from McLean and attended Madiera School and Marymount University.
Cachay, was found dead at the Soho House hotel on Dec. 9. She was half-clothed and face-up in the tub, with bruises on her neck.
The medical examiner's office said Wednesday Cachey died from neck compression and drowning and she had been forcibly submerged in the tub. The death was ruled a homicide.
Brooks, 24, is the son of Oscar-winning songwriter Joseph Brooks.
He initially was charged with attempted murder and faces a court appearance Tuesday.
His lawyer has said his client is innocent.
