WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Hundreds of students and professors gathered Tuesday for a memorial service for the American University professor who was killed in her home .
Bender Arena doors opened at 7:30 p.m. Students came to share memories of how one business class marked "turning points" for them. Sue Marcum changed lives, they said.
Police still haven't formerly filed charges in the murder of Sue Marcum.
Their suspect, Deandrew Hamlin, 18, was arrested for stealing Marcum's SUV shortly after she was found dead in her Massachusetts Avenue home.
"We're looking at him as a potential suspect in Professor Marcum's murder," police said back in late October.
However, few details on the investigation or about Hamlin's link to the murder have been shared by police.
Facebook and American University website posts show just how popular a professor and mentor Marcum was to her students and colleagues.
"Sue Marcum, a cherished professor at American University's Kogod School of Business and director of the master's in Accounting program, tragically passed away ...," an article written on Kogod School of Business's website exclaimed.
"Sue Marcum was an extraordinary individual who transformed the lives of those she met. Thousands of students at American University's Kogod School of Business discovered their love for the field of Accounting through her dynamic teaching and personal commitment to their individual success. Colleagues and friends found joy in the hours spent together over shared interests and collaborations. We will long for her smile and laughter in the days ahead. We invite you to join us in remembering Sue and her love for life," the American University Memorial page posted.
