WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- The Dr. Oz Show has launched a weight loss challenge for all Americans; "Just 10". He wants people to get into shape ten pounds at a time and start feeling, looking and living better.

DC based nutritionist Dr. Rovenia Brock has joined the Dr. Oz dream team as the nutrition coach and she shared with 9NEWS NOW some easy diet strategies.

Dr. Ro said most Americans need to cut their daily calories drastically and the best way to get started is portion control.

"You want to be a member of the lean plate club not the clean plate club,"

She added,"cut your portions in half that means whatever you were eating yesterday start eating half of it from this day forward."

Also having a snack during the day is ok but people need to keep them around 150 calories or less.

Another important tip is to make sure to have protein with every meal. Proteins help slow the absorption of simple carbohydrates that can cause spikes in blood pressure, which Dr. Ro said contribute to weight gain.

Also drink green tea it can help to speed up your metabolism, and lots of water will help flush out your system.

Dr. Ro told us, "Sometimes, you really think you are hungry when you are not. If you just drink a glass of water, you will realize that you were only thirsty and it didn't cost you any calories at all."

One more tip make sure to eat fresh fruit instead of its juice counterpart. Dr. Ro said calorie for calorie fruit is lower in calories then juices.

Check out the Dr. Oz show website and there you can sign up for the "Just 10" challenge and help the DC area win this challenge.
