LAUREL, Md. (WUSA) -- A missing 12-year-old girl from Washington, DC has been rescued from a motel room in Laurel. That's where, police say, she was being held against her will by a 42-year-old man, who had been selling her for sex in DC and New Jersey.
According to Anne Arundel County Police, the girl had been reported missing from DC since May 25, and she was believed to be involved in prostitution.
Police say while working the streets, she met 42-year-old Derwin Samuel Smith of Glen Burnie.
According to court documents, after the pair had sex, Smith took her to Atlantic City, NJ, where she was sold for sex to eight men for about $300. The victim told police the suspect kept the money.
The pair then returned to the DC area.
Police say that's when the girl decided she wanted out.
After getting a tip, police found her at the motel Monday evening. Smith was arrested as he came to the room later that night.
Smith is being held on a $3 million bond.
Anyone with further information to contribute to the case is asked to contact Detective Dan Dickey of the Special Enforcement Section at 410-222-6003.
