WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)--Not much is known about 28-year-old Omare Cotton. Police will only say that he was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Southeast, DC, and charged with first degree murder in the slaying Saturday of 18-year-old Alante Sutton.
If you believe witnesses it was a cold-blooded execution with little regard for witnesses who were milling about last weekend in the 200 block of Newcomb Street in Southeast.
They say Sutton had been changing tires on a car when some kind of feud with the suspect ended with Cotton returning to the scene with a gun and firing at Sutton as the two disappeared into the nearby woods.
It wasn't until a day later, Sunday, Mother's Day, that DC Police found the victim's bullet riddled body, after his family had filed a missing person report.
Why it took so long to make the discovery is under internal review says DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier. She's asking any witnesses to contact police.
Alonte Sutton was a senior at Ballou High in Southeast, an honor roll student expecting to graduate in June.
He was a paid intern for the DC City Council, a "star" down there according to Council staffers and Councilman Michael Brown.
Cotton has a lengthy record according to sources. He is scheduled to appear in DC Superior Court between 4 and 6 p.m., at which time prosecutors will reveal more details in their case.
