Man arrested for car surfing death in Loudoun Co.

STERLING, Va. (WUSA9) -- An 18-year-old from Loudoun County has been arrested after a car surfing accident caused the death of a 17-year-old.

Shafin Karim, of Ashburn, is charged with reckless driving and involuntary manslaughter, police said. Karim was driving a vehicle when a 17- year-old was critically injured after he fell from a vehicle in the parking lot of the Dulles Crossing Plaza.

The 17-year-old, Mohammad U. Khalid, of Sterling, died on Aug. 8. The victim had alighted onto the trunk area of a Subaru being driven by Karim. The teenager fell from the vehicle as Karim attempted to conduct a turn in the parking lot.

Karim was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a $12,500 bond.
