Police investigate overnight homicide in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) -- Police are investigating are overnight homicide in Fairfax County.

Officials were called to the area of Backlick Road and Highland Street in Springfield around 10:05 p.m. Saturday for the report of a man lying in the roadway, possibly struck by a vehicle.

When police located the man, they determined he had an injury to the upper body that was not consistent with a vehicle crash, officials said.

Officials identified the victim Tuesday as 24-year-old Junior Abel Flores, of Springfield.

Flores was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
