Death, burglary at Springfield shopping center under investigation

Police are investigating a death and a burglary that are tied to each other.

SPRINGFIELD,VA. (WUSA9) - Police are investigating after a man was found dead overnight at a shopping center in Springfield. 

The stabbing happened around 2 a.m. at 7255 Commerce St. at Springfield Plaza, Fairfax County police said. When officers got to the scene they found an injured man on the ground. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The victim has been identified as Kieron Hart, 29, of Springfield. 

Authorities are calling this a death investigation.

Fairfax County police added that they were called for a burglary on the other side of the shopping center around the same time. A man was spotted breaking into a business. Police found him inside.

He has been identified as Jay Fasick, 30, of Springfield. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the burglary and stabbing are related.

An investigation revealed that after the argument in the alley, Fasick broke into the store. It is not known if the two men knew each other or if Fasick was injured during the argument or burglary. These incidents remain under investigation.
