Special Police Officer robbed at library in NE, DC

A security officer was robbed at a library late Thursday night.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - A Special Police Officer was robbed of his firearm while working at a library in Northeast, D.C. Thursday night.

The robbery happened in the 3900 block of Benning Road in Northeast, D.C. at the Dorothy Height Library, Metropolitan Police said.

Around 9:15 p.m., the suspect walked up to the SPO and displayed a handgun. He then stole some of the officer’s police equipment, including his weapon. It is believed that the officer was closing down the library at the time of the robbery. 

The SPO was not hurt in the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male, 6’1” and about 25 to 30 years old. He was dressed in a grey hoodie and blue jeans. He is armed with a handgun.
