Slow speed chase reported on I-66

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (WUSA9) -- A driver is in custody after a slow speed chase on I-66 in Fairfax County early Thursday morning, Fairfax County police said. 

Police said the slow speed chase started around 2 a.m. on eastbound I-66 around the Black Lane overpass about halfway between VA 286 and 123. 

The chase started when crews spotted an SUV going about 30 miles per hour. Police tried to pulled the driver over, however a slow speed chase then started. 

According to police the car was going 16 miles per hour at one point. The driver eventually pulled over just before the exit for Nutley St. around 2:10 a.m. 

The driver is in custody and was headed to the jail, however officers ended up taking him to the hospital. His condition is unknown. 

Two right lanes on eastbound I-66 were closed for the investigation. 

Police said the incident may have been alcohol related.
