Weekend traffic work at busy Montgomery Co. intersection

SILVER SPRING (WUSA9) -- Construction work this weekend is expected to cause a traffic headache at a busy Montgomery County intersection.

The Maryland Department of Transportation says travel lanes at the intersection of Georgia Avenue (MD 97) and Randolph Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction on both roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Drivers will be able to make left and right turns at the intersection.

Motorists who normally use that intersection are advised to take an alternate route like Connecticut Avenue.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at the intersection and crews will be on hand to direct traffic at the intersection during the construction.

Once work is complete this weekend, crews will begin work on the next phase of the project, which includes bridge foundation work and retaining wall construction.

The project at the intersection is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
