Silver Spring flooding forces driver to run

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- A woman ran from her van fearing for her life in Tuesday's heavy rains.

It happened in Silver Spring, Md. near the intersection of Sligo Creek Parkway and E Wayne Ave.

The driver, Alem Tolosa, told WUSA9 she had stopped near a pedestrian crossing road sign when all of a sudden, flood waters coming from Sligo Creek pushed her vehicle back a few feet.

Panicked, Tolosa called police and was advised to exit the vehicle.

She waited in the area for a friend to arrive. They both then waited for help in removing the vehicle as flood waters continued to rise.

In broken English, Tolosa told WUSA9 she was scared for her life and grateful everything turned out to be okay.

Park Police closed off the roads.
