Shooting victim jumps from 3rd floor to escape robbers

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police say a man jumped from a third story apartment window in a desperate attempt to escape his attackers after a robbery and shooting in Silver Spring.

Officer Rebecca Innocenti, spokeswoman for the Montgomery County Police Department, says officers were called to an apartment building in the 11500 block of February Circle after a witness reported hearing shots fired around 11:43 Wednesday night. Once police arrived at the scene they found a man who claimed he had been shot, then jumped from a 3rd floor window to escape his assailants. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Officer Innocenti, the preliminary investigation indicates multiple suspects forced their way into the apartment with the intent to rob those inside. After the robbers left the scene a witness gave a description of their vehicle, which was spotted by officers. Initially the suspects resisted officer's attempt to stop their vehicle at Colesville Road (Route 29) and Georgia Avenue. When the robbers did stop, they bailed and attempted to flee on foot, however, all were caught and are being detained.

Right now the suspects and witnesses are being questioned. So far, no charges have been filed.
