Police investigate fatal motorcycle crash in Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police in Montgomery County are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on Aug. 14 in Silver Spring.

Police say it happened at 5:53 p.m. at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Stewart Lane, where investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Camry and a 2004 Suzuki Intruder motorcycle were slowing for traffic while traveling northbound on Columbia Pike.

A 2010 Toyota Prius was also traveling northbound on Columbia Pike but failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to strike the Toyota Camry. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected off the bike, police said.

The motorcycle operator sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Medstar Hospital and he died on Aug. 20.

Police identified the victim as Mark Charles Ecki, age 57, of the 1500 block of W. Lombard Street in Baltimore. No other people involved in the crash were injured.
