Man seriously injured in attack near Silver Spring Metro

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police say a man is in serious condition after being attacked early Tuesday morning near the Silver Spring Metro station.

Police say the man was standing at the taxi area in the 8400 block of Colesville Road when four or five males attacked him. They took his property and fled.

The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment, say police.

According to Forum Theatre's artistic director, actor Frank Britton, who stars as Pontius Pilate in the theater's production of "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot," was the victim. Artistic director Michael Dove says Britton was assaulted by four men near a cab stand around 2:30 a.m. and that the men stole his phone and bag.

Britton doesn't have health insurance, so his friends set up a GoFundMe page Tuesday. By Wednesday, they had already raised more than $36,000, way beyond their $3,000 goal.

Police are asking that any witnesses to the incident call police at 240-773-6800.
