SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police say a 31-year-old man has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a stabbing on June 19.

Police say Ulises A. Blanco-Melgar of Hyattsville stabbed a man multiple times in an apartment building in the 8200 block of Piney Branch Road.

"Upon arriving to the scene, officers located an adult male victim in the second floor hallway suffering from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. A witness, who had observed the suspect fleeing from the scene on foot, began to follow the suspect in a vehicle," police said.

The victim, identified as 49-year-old Tomas Herrera Batres, was rushed to the hospital where he died on June 23.

Blanco-Melgar is currently being held without bond.
