Former Md. music teacher pleads guilty to sexual abuse

A former Montgomery County music teacher pleaded guilty Monday to sexually abusing 15 young students while working for the school system.

Lawrence Joynes, 56, admitted to abusing students at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School and Eastern Middle School, both of which are in Silver Spring.

Prosecutors say most of the abuse took place during school hours inside Joynes' music classroom.

Joynes faces life in prison when he is sentenced in August.

Joynes taught in the Montgomery County school system for 27 years, with the last 10 at New Hampshire Estates.
