14-year-old hit by van in Montgomery County

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County police say a 14-year-old male was struck by a van on East West Highway Thursday morning.

It happened around 10:30 on East West Highway near Rosemary Hills Drive.

Police say the teen got off a Metrobus and ran across the street in front of the bus, into the path of the van. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say that the van had a green light. We're told the bus driver tried to stop the boy from crossing the street but he was unable to hear him.

The boy was picked up along West Montgomery Avenue along with a group of teenagers.

Montgomery County police closed East West Highway between 16th Street and Rosemary Hills Drive while they investigated the accident.
