Shenandoah National Park fire dampened by rain and snow

LURAY, Va. (WUSA9) -- A fire at the 'Rocks Mountain' in the southern district of Shenandoah National Park has been dampened by the rain and snow this week.

The fire had grown to over 450 acres, officials said.

The fire was reported around 3:10 p.m. on Feb. 28. For visitor safety, the Riprap, Wildcat Ridge and Rocks Mountain trails are temporarily closed. However, the rest of the park including the Skyline is open, officials said.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time, officials said.
