Man on motorcycle killed after crashing in Rockville

ROCKVILLE, MD. (WUSA9) - A man who was riding a motorcycle late Thursday night is dead after crashing into a guardrail in Rockville, Maryland State police said. 

The crash happened around 11:10 p.m. on I-270 northbound north of MD Route 28, in the transition lane from main lanes to local lanes, authorities said. 

Police said the 26-year-old victim, Joseph Jones of Rockville was riding a 2014 Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle. 

Jones was going northbound on I-270 in the far left lane at a very high rate of speed when he decided to abruptly cross all four lanes in an attempt to take the transition lane from the main lanes to the local lanes.

The investigation shows that he hit the guardrail on the right shoulder and was then ejected from the motorcycle. 

He suffered several injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
