New pets spayed/neutered for free on World Spay Day

MANASSAS, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Prince William County Animal Shelter is participating in World Spay Day by offering free spaying and neutering dogs or cats adopted from the shelter on Feb. 25.

Adoption fees still apply, say shelter officials. The shelter will pay for Dale City Animal Hospital, River Oaks Veterinary Clinic and Caring Hands Animal Hospital of Bristow to provide the spay/neuter service. Costs for other items such as pain medication and preventative treatments will have to be paid by the owner, according to shelter officials.

The shelter at 14807 Bristow Road in Manassas will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 25. Adoption lasts until 4:30 p.m.

Officials say World Spay Day is a Humane Society of the United States program, meant to promote spaying and neutering as a way to save the lives of dogs and cats.
