Man may have had medical emergency before car crash

LOVETTSVILLE, Va. (WUSA9) -- A 71-year-old man lost his life and a 13-year-old boy suffered injuries in a car crash in Lovettsville on Thursday morning.

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office authorities say that George M. Newton, of Waterford may have suffered a medical emergency just prior to the crash at 10 a.m. on Berlin Turnpike at Householder Rd.

The car Newton was driving left the road and struck a utility pole. Live wires covered the vehicle and Virginia Dominion Power responded to the scene. Newton lost his life at the scene, say authorities.

His cause of death remains under investigation by the Office of the Medical Examiner.

A 13-year-old passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. He was taken to the Cornwall Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital, say authorities.
