Police: naked kidnapping victim jumped from moving car

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- During a police pursuit of a vehicle headed the wrong way down a street in Laurel, police say a naked man jumped out of the vehicle. He was later determined to be a kidnapping victim.

At approximately 1:16 a.m. Tuesday, a Laurel Police Officer saw a vehicle without its headlights on and travelling in the wrong direction on a one-way street in the 700 block of Fifth St., according to police. The officer turned on his lights and siren to try to stop the vehicle. Authorities say the vehicle made an illegal right turn onto Talbott Avenue and continued in the wrong direction. It slowed down to turn right onto Washington Boulevard (Route 1), and that's when a naked man jumped out of the moving vehicle's passenger side.

The pursuit continued into the Laurel Shopping Center and then turned north onto Route 1. The vehicle crashed into three parked cars at the Car America Dealership at 10052 N Washington Blvd. in North Laurel before coming to rest upside down against a telephone pole.

Two men inside the car were injured. They were evaluated by Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene, say police. One man was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma and the other to Laurel Regional Hospital.

Officers later determined that the person who jumped from the moving vehicle was the victim of a kidnapping and armed robbery. They also recovered a loaded .40 caliber handgun from the crashed vehicle.

Police say that Donte Powell, 27, of Washington D.C. and Douglas Mention, 26, of South Carolina, will be charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and weapons related charges. Other charges are pending.
