Police ID victims in Gaithersburg murder-suicide

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Police detectives have identified the victims in an apparent murder-suicide in a Gaithersburg parking garage.

Police say they believe 39-year-old Michelle Rena Reid fatally shot 38-year-old David Lee Reid Jr. before turning the gun on herself.

According to Captain Paul Starks, spokesman for the Montgomery County Police Department, officers patrolling the area of Girard Street at Allied Place heard the sound of gunshots around 11:20 Sunday night. The officers checked out the parking garage in the 500 block of Raven Avenue where they found a 38-year-old Gaithersburg man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel took the man to a local hospital where he later died.

As officers and paramedics were attempting to save the man's life, other responding officers searching the garage found a 39-year-old woman hiding between parked cars. The woman, who was armed, then shot herself. She was also taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Captain Starks says the preliminary investigation indicates the woman shot the man before she committed suicide. Investigators believe the two were married and may have been separated.

Detectives continue to investigate these two deaths and are asking anyone with information relating to this event or the two victims to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Callers may remain anonymous.
