Police: Drunk driver crashed into parked cruiser

ELKRIDGE, Md. (WUSA9) -- A driver under the influence of alcohol crashed his SUV into a parked police vehicle Monday night, say Howard County police officials.

They say 26-year-old Dilraj Singh of Burtonsville was speeding before his Toyota 4 Runner hit the back of the marked police cruiser on the side of the road in the 7300 block of Matchbox Alley. The police car was pushed into a vehicle parked in front of it.

Police Officer First Class Kenneth Joubert, a 26-year veteran of law enforcement, was inside the cruiser, according to police. He was transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Singh suffered non life-threatening injuries and was also transported to Howard County General Hospital.

The 7300 block of Matchbox Alley was closed for approximately one and a half hours for the investigation.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
