Police arrest Md. sex offender for burglary

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police have arrested a man in connection to a burglary incident. He is also a registered sex offender, police said.

The incident happened on May 9 around 11:00 p.m. when a resident saw Antonio Avery, 41 running from the area carrying a bag after a burglary. This happened in the area of Woodland Avenue and Beech Avenue. When Police arrived they saw Avery running into the trees and crouched low behind some bushes. A second resident who was walking his dog, reported seeing a man hiding to Police. When Police confronted him, he gave them a fraudulent home address.

A victim reported to Police that property had been stolen from his home on the 7000 block of Woodland Avenue. Officials developed Avery as a suspect, police said.

Police then arrested Avery on May 21.
