People displaced after fire at Lanham apt. building

LANHAM, Md. (WUSA9) -- A fire is now out at an apartment building in Lanham, Md. on Tuesday morning, according to Prince George's County fire spokesperson Mark Brady.

A second alarm was sounded for additional firefighters to respond to the scene of the fire at 10001 Greenbelt Road.

First firefighters on the scene found a three-story garden-style apartment building with fire and smoke showing, reports Brady.

Brady says no injuries were reported, and the people who were displaced are being sent to a community center.

According to Brady, the fire started in a kitchen on the ground floor at approximately 7:45 a.m. and rose through interior walls into the second and third floors as well as the roof.

Firefighters were able to extinguished the fire in about 30 minutes.
