Pedestrian struck, killed in Sterling

STERLING, Va. (WUSA9) -- A pedestrian was struck and killed in Sterling early Monday morning, according to police.

The crash took place around Sterling Boulevard and E. Beech Road around 2:25 a.m. Police said Andres Zambrana, 65, of Washington D.C., was crossing the road in a crosswalk when he was hit by a car. 

According to a witness, the driver of the car called 9-1-1 and stayed on the scene until authorities arrived.

Zambrana was transported to a local hospital where he died shortly after arriving.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor with the pedestrian however this case will remain under review for charges until the toxicology results return.
