Pedestrian critically injured in Anne Arundel Co crash

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- A pedestrian has critical injuries after a crash that happened Friday afternoon in Anne Arundel County, police said.

The crash happened around 2:39 p.m. on southbound Ritchie Hwy just north of Arnold Road in Arnold, Anne Arundel County police said.

A BMW was going southbound on Ritchie Hwy entering the left turn lane of traffic. Police said the pedestrian suddenly ran eastbound from the Arnold Station shopping center across five lanes of traffic into that lane.

The pedestrian was hit in the left lane by the car and thrown into the median. Bryan Lamar Scott, 27, of Arnold was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Police said the driver of the BMW was not hurt.

The investigation shows that the cause appears to be the pedestrian's failure to give the right away to the oncoming traffic when crossing outside of a crosswalk. Police said there is a crosswalk with pedestrian signals at the nearby intersection.

Neither speed or alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
