SUV drives off overpass, killing two in Oxon Hill

OXON HILL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two people from Alexandria are dead after a violent crash in Oxon Hill early Monday morning.

Prince George's County police say officers responded to a report of a crash on Oxon Hill Road below the Indian Head Highway overpass at 2 a.m. Monday. Once police arrived on the scene they found a red SUV on its roof.

Police say 45-year-old James Monroe Henderson of Alexandria and 30-year-old Aayoni Williams of Alexandria. were pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, their investigation reveals Henderson was driving the SUV northbound on Indian Head Highway, approaching Oxon Hill Road when Henderson lost control of the SUV and it left the roadway. The SUV struck a guardrail and light pole before overturning and coming to rest on Oxon Hill Road.

Police say speed appears to be a factor.
