Officials warn Va. residents of jury duty scam

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- Officials are warning Virginia residents of a recent scam in which the suspects identify themselves as deputy sherriffs.

The suspects/scammers call the residents saying they are deputy sheriffs and claim that the resident failed to appear for jury duty and must pay a court fee to avoid arrest, officials said.

The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office says it is not associated with this scam and advise residents to refrain from giving away any personal information such as the social security number or bank account.
