Officer Peter Laboy to throw out 1st pitch in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, VA (WUSA9) -- Officials announced that the City of Alexandria Police Officer, Peter Laboy, will throw out the first pitch for the Alexandria Aces 2014 home opener.

Laboy is recovering from a severe gun shot wound to his head in Feb. 2013.

The Alexandria Aces are a part of the prestigious Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League which is "an elite nationally-known wooden bat summer program made up of amateur players from a wide variety of colleges and universities from throughout the United States," officials said in a statement.

Some of the teams in CRCBL include the Alexandria Aces, Baltimore Dodgers, Baltimore Redbirds, Bethesda Big Train, D.C. Grays, Gaithersburg Giants, Herndon Braves, Rockville Express, Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, Vienna Riverdogs and Youse's Orioles.

The home opener is Thursday, June 5 at Frank Mann Field located on 3650 Commonwealth Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia.

Tickets can be purchased at the front gate of Frank Mann Field before the game.
