TEMPLE HILLS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County Police arrested a Waldorf mom after they say she left her three-month-old baby unattended inside of a car while she shopped for wigs inside a Temple Hills, Md. beauty supply store Thursday afternoon.
Police said 34-year-old Elika Evette Gadson left the baby unattended inside of a car in the parking lot of the Beauty4U store along the 3500 block of 32nd Ave. around 1:52 p.m.
A passerby saw Gadson's daughter in the car, according to authorities. When EMS got to the scene they found the screaming baby in the backseat. Crews were able to get inside through an unlocked door. Police said the air conditioner was on inside of the car. The baby was not injured.
According to police, the mother was inside the store for about 25 minutes. An employee said she purchased two wigs.
Police said the woman was arrested and the baby is with family members. Gadson was charged with reckless endangerment and confinement of an unattended child.
Her father Jphnny Gadson told WUSA9 that his daughter is being cared for for a medical condition, "We are concerned about her welfare and the people that are dealing with her are concerned with her welfare."
