More than 50 airbag thefts reported in Fairfax County

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) -- More than 50 airbag thefts have been reported to Fairfax County police this year, according to Fairfax County Crime Solvers.

Crime Solvers say they need your help identifying the persons responsible for these thefts.

According to authorities, airbags were stolen from seven vehicles parked in the Fairfax area of the Fair Oaks police district during the overnight hours of April 4 into April 5. Nine vehicles parked in the Annandale area of the Mason police district also were stripped of their airbags during the overnight hours of April 9 into April 10.

Authorities say some cars were unlocked but the majority of the time in each case the thieves smashed out the rear window of a locked vehicle. The suspects then opened the hood, disconnected the battery and removed the airbag.

Anyone with information about these airbag thefts is asked to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS(8477) or text "TIP187" plus your message to CRIMES(274637). A $100 to $1,000 cash reward will be paid for information that leads to an arrest.
