WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - A Lanham high school teacher admitted to texting a 16-year-old student inappropriately and is accused of touching the victim, according to Prince George's County police.
Doney Olivieri, 66, of SE, D.C., who is a teacher at DuVal High School was arrested on Monday and is being charged with sexual solicitation of a minor, fourth degree sexual offense and second degree assault.
A woman asked to not be identified but still voiced her frustration outside of the school Tuesday.
"It's almost as is if it's on a weekly event now and our children are being exposed to a whole lot,” said the high school mother.
"I don't know what to say. It's just hard to believe people like that have authority to teach your children,” said Jennifer Allen with her reaction written all over her face.
Students know 66-year-old Doney Olivieri as a Spanish teacher at the high school. According to charging documents, the Foreign Language Teacher asked a student for the victim's number. That student actually gave his own and pretended he was the victim. He told police from June to September, Olivieri texted multiple times wanting sex.
Charging documents also say Olivieri squeezed the alleged victim on the chest and asked him for a kiss in the classroom in September.
"He always seemed weird but I didn't think he was going to be touching students and stuff,” said Allen’s daughter, Jaydah Allen. She did not have the teacher but knew him.
"There are kids that are taking it a lot harder than I am and it's just kind of shocking,” the high school senior said.
A school spokesperson says Olivieri has been at DuVal ever since 2004 and the school system the year before at Oxon Hill Middle School. He also previously taught at Howard University as a part time professor. A university spokesperson says that was more than five years ago.
Several parents tell WUSA 9 they hope the school system can somehow strengthen background checks.
Olivieri posted bond on Tuesday and has a preliminary hearing set for November 7th. He has been placed on administrative leave.
