Woman killed in MD crash involving pickup truck and car

MIDDLETOWN, Md. (WUSA9) -- A woman is dead after a crash involving a pickup truck and a car in Middletown, Md. Thursday night.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. in the area of Ridge Road in Middletown, Maryland State Police said. Investigation shows that a 2012 silver Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Paul Francis Smith, 25, of Smithsburg, Md. was going westbound on route 40A east of Ridge Road.

Smith crossed into the eastbound lanes of route 40A and hit a 2008 white Toyota Corolla head-on, police said. Terry Eugene Wolfe, 67, of Middletown, was driving the Toyota, authorities said. Wolfe was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Deborah Kay Bell, 59, of Brunswick, was a passenger in the Toyota. She was taken to the hospital where she later died.

Investigation shows that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. Charges are pending. Maryland State Police continue to investigate this accident.

Route 40A was closed for about three and a half hours due to the crash.
